If you're a fan of Netflix 's horror or sci-fi videos, then you've probably already checked out The Platform from 2020; this remains one of the streamer's best movies to watch as well as one of its most popular movies of all time and now we know a lot about its sequel called The Platform 2 .

The Platform 2 was first announced back in May of this year but Netflix didn't spill many beans on... well, much at all recently. However, it's finally given us a lot more information on this upcoming sequel including a release date and a first-look trailer.

You can see the trailer below, and we now know that you'll be able to watch The Platform 2 on Netflix from Friday, October 4.

The original movie The Platform came from Spain, and it was about a futuristic prison which was centered around a social experiment. One prisoner attempts to enact change but their quest turns bloody.

An early plot synopsis from Netflix for The Platform 2 describes how a new leader has taken over the prison, and the new prisoners are going to learn new tricks in order to survive or escape.

Two cast members have been announced: Milena Smit plays Perempuan and Hovik Keuchkerian plays Zamiatin. These are two new characters for The Platform 2, and you'll meet them in the first trailer which Netflix has shared:

Four years on from its release, The Platform remains one hugely popular: it's Netflix's fifth most-watched non-English movie of all time under Troll at #1, Society of the Snow at #2, Under Paris at #3 and Nowhere at #4.

Its admirable 82 million views admittedly wouldn't place it on the streamer's overall movies top 10, but it's still a huge number for a simple 90-minute sci-fi movie which reportedly only took six weeks to shoot.

The original The Platform wasn't made for Netflix, with the streamer buying rights to it after its premiere at Toronto International Film Festival, but the sequel is being made specifically for the streamer.

At the time of writing there are three months to go until The Platform 2 lands on Netflix, and before then we'll probably see a full trailer for the movie and also hear more about the cast and plot.
