According to a criminal complaint, Shelby Hobbs, 31, wrote 42 checks to herself using the department’s checkbook over the span of about 11 months. During that time, Hobbs diverted about $17,458.41 of the department’s funds into her own personal bank account, the complaint states.

Hobbs was arrested on Wednesday and booked into the Jasper County Jail. She has been charged with one county of first-degree theft and 11 counts of forgery.
