Golden Retrievers have favorite things, just like humans do. That might be a blanket, a toy, or even a person; if your dog has a favorite, you're going to know about it. They'll never let you forget!

For one Golden Retriever, that favorite thing is Elmo. He loves everything about Elmo, which his parents know. He's one lucky dog, because on Wednesday, July 10th, he got a special surprise:

Janelle and Kate are great dog moms who share a joint account. Anyone willing to dress in a costume like this is just the best!

This sweet Golden Retriever is obsessed with Elmo. As the video shows, he loves to watch Elmo on TV, and he loves to play with his Elmo toy. Most likely, his love of watching Sesame Street came about because of the toy; he recognizes it!

As much as he loves Elmo, he's not expecting to meet him. He probably had no idea that Elmo could "really" exist - let alone be in his living room! However, as soon as he sees the costume, he goes crazy. Not only that, but he bring "Elmo" his own Elmo toy. Rule #1 of being a Golden Retriever: always bring something to your guests!

Do Dogs Recognize Characters on TV?

This boy knows exactly who Elmo is; he has a toy and he watches him on TV. He wastes no time when he sees Elmo in real life, which definitely means he has to recognize him, doesn't it?

Research suggests that dogs can recognize their favorite people and even some other animals in pictures and videos. The dog sees his favorite toy, and then he sees the same toy on-screen: he recognizes Elmo, maybe not as a living thing, but as a thing he knows. He might consider the puppet on-screen one of his toys, even, which would explain why he's so desperate to watch its every move.

Dogs love TV, and they might even have a "favorite" show; which is typically one that's very visually stimulating. Kids shows like Sesame Street , Bluey , and even Cocomelon are often big hits with pups, though you should limit their screen time to avoid overstimulation.

When it comes to the Elmo suit a person is wearing in the video, it's also something he recognizes, probably as a giant version of his favorite toy! They'll need to watch him closely; if he gets a hold of the costume, there's a chance he'll tear it up. Those costumes are typically rented!
