Investigation underway after deputy-involved shooting occurs in Union Parish on Louisiana Highway 549

UNION PARISH ( KTVE/KARD ) — On July 6, 2024, the Union Parish Sheriff’s Office was dispatched to Louisiana Highway 549 in reference to a distraught female subject who reportedly threatened to harm herself. Upon arrival, deputies encountered an armed female subject on the front steps of a residence and authorities began speaking with the subject in an attempt to calm her down.

According to authorities, the situation escalated and the female subject allegedly fired shots at deputies. Authorities returned fire, striking the female subject multiple times. The female subject was transported to a nearby hospital for her injuries.

The Northeast Louisiana Sheriff’s Investigative Unit was contacted and a team of investigators from surrounding agencies responded and took over the investigation. The investigation is ongoing and no further information has been released at this time.
