PITTSFIELD, N.Y. ( NEWS10 )– Berkshire Humane Society is waiving adult adoption fees from Monday, July 15, through Sunday, July 21, to celebrate Mass Saves. The week-long adopt-a-thon is a partnership between several shelters for dogs over a year old.

Mass Saves aims to save the lives of local animals, and Berkshire Humane Society’s alliance in the statewide event focuses on dog behavior, medical needs, and adoption. Berkshire Humane Society Executive Director John Perreault said the event is in response to an influx of adult dogs that weren’t adopted right away.

“We’re no different. Due to the economy, we’re receiving dogs with medical needs that need to be treated and dogs who need extra attention to address behavioral issues,” Perreault said. “We have many good dogs in the shelter, but it takes resources and time to find them a home. That’s why I’m excited to join this statewide team of organizations to address this issue.”
