On Wednesday evening (July 10), Common and Pete Rock serenaded the late-night TV show’s audience with grooves from their song “When the Sun Shines Again,” which features appearances from De La Soul member Posdnuos and singer Bilal.

Common and Pete Rock’s appearance on The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon marks the latest step towards the unveiling of The Auditorium Vol. 1 , which is set to be released on Friday (July 12). Preceded by the singles “Wise Up,” “Dreamin’” and “All Kinds of Ideas,” the album marks Common and Pete Rock’s first instance collaborating for a full-length project.

The Chicago-bred emcee recently expounded on the inspiration behind linking up with the New York boardsman to create this project.

“For me, this all started with A Dream,” Common wrote on Instagram. “A Dream to let the world know I’ve been here. A dream to be a part of Hip Hop. A Dream to MC at a level where De La Soul, A Tribe Called Quest, KRS-One and Ice Cube knew who I was. It’s been a dream of mine to work with the LEGENDARY @realpeterock (on more than just one song). I’ve been Dreamin’ my whole life.
