10 Retailers That Committed To Making Products More Affordable for Shoppers This Summer

With the effects of inflation and rising prices on many items families use on a daily basis, shoppers are looking for new and easy ways to save on everyday essentials .

There’s good news — many stores have expressed their commitment to making products cheaper this summer.

1. Walmart

Walmart has been a key destination for many shoppers who are working to survive the increased cost of living. After all, it’s a retailer known for generally having lower prices on items shoppers use on a daily basis than many competitors.

To help struggling shoppers even more, in May, Walmart officials announced the retailer was slashing prices on about 7,000 items in its stores, including popular food items.

2. Target

If you’re a price-conscious shopper, you may already use the competition between Walmart and Target to your advantage. If one doesn’t have a sale on an item you want, the other one likely has it marked down.

So, it makes sense that Target is also cutting prices this summer. In fact, Target plans to reduce prices on about 5,000 items this summer. You’ll find reduced prices on things ranging from grocery items to household staples.

3. Walgreens

If your local Walgreens survives the mass closings being made by the chain, you’ll find many savings this summer. Walgreens is slashing prices on more than 1,300 items this summer.

Here’s some good news — the discounts include both name-brand and store-brand items. That means products for health and wellness and personal care will be included in the summer savings.

4. Amazon Fresh

One outlet that’s providing even more information about its summer price discounts is Amazon Fresh. It’s slashing the prices on around 4,000 items by up to 30% online and at in-person stores.

The discounts are on name-brand and private-label products, which means you can score deals on your favorite frozen foods and meats. Amazon Fresh plans to rotate the discounted items weekly.

5. Aldi

If you like Aldi for its selection and discounted prices, this may be a great summer for you.

Aldi is slashing prices for more than 250 items, including meats, frozen foods, and snacks. Aldi said the cuts are part of a plan to offer $100 million in savings through Labor Day.

6. McDonald’s

If you use the app to order, you probably already know there are savings to be had at McDonald’s. Now, and especially at a time when diners want to spend less and there’s growing competition for those dollars, McDonald’s has a new $5 meal option for the summer.

You can get a sandwich, fries, chicken nuggets, and a drink with this option. McDonald’s has made it clear this is a limited-time offer.

7. Wendy’s

Just like with McDonald’s and other fast-food places, you can usually find decent deals on the app from Wendy’s. Like McDonald’s, Wendy’s is offering some value items and meals this summer.

One option to watch for is the $3 breakfast combo — seasoned potatoes and a breakfast sandwich.

8. Burger King

You may want to check out Burger King for a quick lunch or a stop on your summer road trip. Not to be outdone by its competitors, Burger King has a $5 meal offer this summer.

9. Ikea

You may have already taken advantage of some of the price cuts at Ikea. According to AARP, “The Swedish home accessories and furniture retailer has been slashing prices in several countries for some time.”

More cuts are set to come throughout this year. The cuts on thousands of items are aimed at taking prices back down to inflation-adjusted pre-pandemic levels.

10. Michaels

If you’re planning to do some arts and crafts this summer, Michaels has price cuts aimed at bringing shoppers to the store. In fact, it’s lowering prices on more than 5,000 items.

The discounted items include home decor and seasonal favorites. “Prices for paint, markers, and pens have been reduced up to 15 percent, while T-shirts will cost up to 40 percent less,” according to AARP.
