Law enforcement warns of fake DirecTV salesman

WINFIELD, Kan. (KSNW) — The Cowley County Sheriff’s Office is warning about a man impersonating a DirecTV salesman.

The Cowley County Sheriff’s Office says residents reported that a man in what is believed to be a black Volvo SUV with a Florida license plate is going door to door claiming to be from DirecTV. The sheriff’s office says the man is showing a Florida identification card and is trying to scam residents.

A similar incident was reported in Butler County back on July 2. Around 7:30 p.m., Butler County Sheriff’s deputies were called to the area of SW 140th and SW Prairie Creek Road between Andover and Rose Hill. A resident reported that a man claiming to be with DirecTV tried to get into their home, claiming they were there for an equipment upgrade.

Because of the time of night, the homeowner called DirecTV to verify, and the company confirmed that no one was working in the area. The man reportedly left in a black BMW.

The Butler County Sheriff’s Office says deputies were unable to locate the vehicle. The Cowley County Sheriff’s Office says they also confirmed with DirecTV that they did not have anyone working in the area at the time of the incidents reported in their county.

The Cowley County Sheriff’s Office warns if you are approached by someone claiming to be with DirecTV you should call 911 immediately.
