American actress Shelley Duvall has passed away at the age of 75, with many taking to social media to pay tribute to her.

Her life partner, musician Dan Gilroy , confirmed her passing to THR with a touching statement: "My dear, sweet, wonderful life partner and friend left us. Too much suffering lately, now she's free. Fly away, beautiful Shelley," he expressed.

Some have taken to social media to pay tribute to the iconic actress, particularly for her role as the terrified wife of Jack Nicholson in The Shining .

Duvall herself said that being an actress when she started off was not too lucrative industry, despite her being in one of the most iconic movies of all time.

She said: "You didn't get paid much—just scale plus 10 percent," she says. "They thought women would just marry and the husband's going to support them. But that doesn't happen for everybody."

It is believed that Duvall's net worth was estimated to be around $500,000 at one point, though it's unknown what it may have been at the time of her death.

Her co-star from The Shining on the other hand, Jack Nicholson, is estimated to be worth approximately $400 million.
