    Opening Day at Colonial Downs

    July 11 to Sept. 7 at Colonial Downs, New Kent

    Thursdays through Saturdays see action at the track, with Thirsty Thursdays, Party at the Downs each Friday, and Saturday special events. FREE for parking and general admission.

    Hanover Tomato Festival

    July 12 to 13 at Pole Green Park, Mechanicsville

    An annual outdoor family and pet-friendly festival with delicious tomato dishes: tomato pie, BLTs, and more. Plus select agriculture, handcraft, and artisan vendors, tomato-themed children’s and family activities and delicious Hanover tomatoes for purchase. FREE.

    “The Roommate”

    July 12 to 21 at HATTheatre, Richmond

    In a play described as “the Odd Couple meets Breaking Bad,” Sharon, in her mid-50s, is recently divorced and needs a roommate to share her Iowa home. Robyn, also in her mid-50s, needs a place to hide and a chance to start over. But as Sharon begins to uncover Robyn’s secrets, they encourage her own deep-seated desire to transform her life completely.

    “Sounds Funny Band with Micah ‘Bam-Bamm’ White”

    July 13, 8 p.m., at Dogwood Dell, Byrd Park, Richmond

    This local long-time musician and comedian will have you laughing and thinking, singing and dancing. Get there early and bring a picnic basket and connect with friends and family.

    Portraits: The “Style Weekly” Photograph Archive – FREE Admission Day

    FREE on July 14, exhibition runs July 11 to May 16, at The Valentine, Richmond

    “Style Weekly” was Richmond’s alternative source of culture, arts, opinion, and local issues. It started in 1982, telling news with readers through words and photographs. This exhibition includes photographs selected from the archive.
