Here are four bold predictions for the upcoming season.<ol><li>At least five SEC teams make the College Football Playoff</li></ol>After Texas and Oklahoma joined the SEC in the offseason, the conference appears stronger than ever. The SEC looks to be the most dominant conference in the country this season, and postseason selection will prove it. The teams that will make the playoffs from the SEC, in no particular order, are Texas, Georgia, Ole Miss, Alabama, Missouri, and/or Tennessee.<ol><li>Virginia Tech will finish third in the ACC</li></ol>The Hokies won five of their last seven games in 2023, with their only two losses during that stretch coming against ranked teams. They lost to the Louisville Cardinals, who went on to win ten games, and to the NC State Wolfpack, who had a solid season. Due to their high-powered offense, Virginia Tech will be a tough opponent for any team this season. At home, they will be even more of a threat and one of the most dangerous home teams in the country.<ol><li>Liberty makes the College Football Playoff</li></ol>With the new expanded playoff format, the highest-ranked champion from the group of six—Mountain West, American Athletic Conference, Sun Belt, Mid-American Conference, or Conference USA—will earn a spot in the College Football Playoff. Liberty is my favorite to earn this spot. They play in Conference USA and have dominated the group of six in recent seasons. Liberty went 13-1 in 2023, with their only loss coming to the Oregon Ducks in the Fiesta Bowl.<ol><li>Oregon will win the Big Ten</li></ol>The Ducks just joined the Big Ten this offseason, coming from the Pac-12. However, they are going to assert their dominance in the conference right away and come away with the Big Ten Championship at the end of the season. The Ducks will face two legitimate opponents who also threaten to win the Big Ten this season in Ohio State and Michigan. They will face Ohio State in Eugene, which I believe gives them the slight advantage between the two very evenly matched teams. Unfortunately, Oregon will face Michigan on the road, but Michigan has a lot to figure out this season after losing head coach Jim Harbaugh and losing 10 players on offense.In a season filled with unprecedented changes and exciting potential, these bold predictions highlight the shifting landscape of college football.
