It has been estimated that Michael Douglas was paid around $20 million for his role in 1987's Wall Street. The film follows Bud Fox (Charlie Sheen), a junior stockbroker at Jackson Steinem & Co. in New York City who wants to work with his hero, Gordon Gekko (Douglas), a legendary Wall Street player.

Douglas' earnings from the sequel to the film were at the center of a news story back in 2010 when his ex-wife Diandra Luker sought payment for his reprisal. She sought this money on the basis of the 2000 divorce settlement that granted her a share in proceeds from the actor's work while they were a couple.

She sought earnings from the new film because he played Gordon Gekko again. She eventually lost her case.
