    We Tested ‘Descendants: The Rise Of Red’ Stars Kylie Cantrall & Malia Baker’s Knowledge Of Their On-Screen Movie Mothers, Rita Ora & Brandy Norwood

    Disney fans across the globe are awaiting the fourth installment of Disney’s beloved Descendants franchise, Descendants: The Rise Of Red , which drops tomorrow, July 12, on Disney+. The film introduces a new cast of characters and exciting kingdoms to the magical world of Auradon. After Uma (returning star China Anne McClain) takes over as headmaster of Auradon Prep, her first order of business is to invite the rebellious Red (Kylie Cantrall), daughter of the terrifying and tyrannical Queen of Hearts of Wonderland (pop superstar Rita Ora), to attend classes.

    Seeing this as an opportunity to gain power, the Queen of Hearts accompanies Red to the welcoming ceremony. There she encounters her childhood friend, Cinderella (Brandy Norwood, reprising her role from the1997 Disney television film Rodgers & Hammerstein’s Cinderella ), and her headstrong daughter, Chloe (Malia Baker), who is also set to start the school semester. When the Queen of Hearts makes a grab for power, Red and Chloe travel back in time—with the help of Maddox Hatter (Leonardo Nam)—to stop her from becoming a villain.

    Kylie Cantrall and Malia Baker stopped by the Page Six studios to chat with DECIDER about the upcoming film and to test their knowledge of their on-screen mothers: Rita Ora and Brandy. Both women are titans in the music industry as well as accomplished actresses, and Cantrall and Baker couldn’t have been more game to answer a few questions about these incredible ladies. After a rousing game of trivia, we asked the stars what they admired most about their movie mothers.

    Kylie began: “Rita’s so glam and so perfect. Aside from her being beautiful, she’s also so sweet.” She describes the “Let Me Love You” singer as having “just a warm energy” and being “just so fun.” Most importantly, Kylie dished: “She was always a party.”

    As for Brandy, Malia admires her “sense of groundedness that is so rare” in the industry. “Whenever you are in her presence, if you were having a rough day, you would just be instantly [be] okay.” Malia thinks that quality comes from “The Boy Is Mine” singer’s “mothering nature.” “She’s very maternal, and I really admire that about her.”
