Tiny homes are kinda having a big moment right now, even if, understandably, not everyone's about that tiny house life. Some people want to go all-in on a minimalist lifestyle and downsize their space, while other people build tiny homes for use as vacation cabins or separate, secondary living spaces on their main property.

If you're interested in tiny home construction for the second reason outlined, you might consider investing in something called a "bunkie." Oh, what, you've never heard of a "bunkie?" Yeah, I hadn't either, nor had most people, as far as I can tell. Luckily, cabin builder David Fraser is here to break down all the basics of "bunkies!"

Did you ever play with Lincoln Logs when you were a kid? Well, bunkies are basically the life-sized, grown-up version of that. David Fraser is the founder of the @bunkielifeofficial brand, and at the risk of sounding redundant, he's all about that bunkie life!

Even more basic than your typical tiny house , bunkies are tiny log cabin kits that can be quickly stacked together and built within a few days' time, provided you've got a few people with you who are willing to pitch in and help! David had a ball demonstrating some of the various potential uses for a bunkie: a home office , a kid's playroom, a backyard bar, a "knitting corner/mancrafting space," etc. It doesn't take much to build a bunkie, but once it's all done, the possibilities are limitless.

Alright, color me interested. I did note a lack of insulation, plumbing, etc., but for a basic backyard log cabin you can build in a couple days, I'm cool with keeping things simple. So what's the damage? Can't be crazy, right?

Oh... bunkies can cost anywhere from $5,995 to $19,495 CAD, which translates to around $4,394 to $14,288 USD. You might not need to take a second mortgage out for a bunkie, but you'll need more than Lincoln Log money!

    TikTok Has a Field Day

This video had everything: quirky delivery, an interesting DIY build kit, and a price tag high enough to send some viewers into a sticker-shock spiral. That was all TikTok users needed to get up to what they do best: creating chaos in the comments, starting with the people who just came around to roast the prices.

"A Bunkie is the manifestation of late-stage capitalism!" quipped @fishandgamereport.

"So it's essentially a shed that costs the same but you put it together yourself?" critiqued @nononothegaybryan.

"Those prices are WILD for uninsulated and unwired and DIY," echoed @daddy.pickle0.

OK, to be fair to poor David (well, obviously not poor David), not everyone was as put off by the price. Some DIYers were more amenable to the thought of a big spend and saw lots of potential for fun... any maybe even a little mischief.

"Can you jazz it up and make it into a funky bunky?" wondered @raginangerson.

"If I got enough people, could I build one in my friend's backyard while he's at work? Would be an expensive prank, but worth it," asked @mfingsorcerer. OK, now we're talking!

Seriously, all jokes about pranking friends with backyard log cabins aside, this product has plenty of potential. Bunkie Life's FAQs shared detailed how-to guides on how to install heating, wiring, and insulation in your bunkie, so you can effectively turn it into something a little nicer than just a basic log cabin, provided you're willing to put in the time and work. On the other hand, you could also do all that with a cheaper pre-fab outdoor shed , as commenters pointed out. However, if you're super into DIYing everything from the ground up, and you don't mind paying extra for the privilege, you might wanna check out these life-sized Lincoln Logs and start living that bunkie life!
