Gotta stay on your toes out there. I'm not on any dating apps, but I've heard all the horror stories (from both sides) of the kinds of people that you meet on there. Are there success stories? Sure. But are there also crazies and people just on there looking to take advantage of others who are looking for love? Absolutely. That's probably why this guy's story has gotten so much attention after he seemingly outsmarted a girl who was apparently just looking for a free meal. A TikTok posted by a guy who goes by @_johnnyamerica has gone viral lately as he tells the story of dining and dashing during a date with a girl that he matched with on Hinge - but the internet seems like they're almost entirely on his side. According to Johnny, he offered to take the young lady out to lunch, and according to him he was thinking "something casual." But apparently she had other plans, and suggested they go to hibachi instead. Well Johnny agreed, but when he shows up to the restaurant, he finds that the girl has brought a friend with her. Weird move already...but as he said, he can't exactly tell her to go away, so whatever. But once they get inside the restaurant, Johnny said both of the girls started ordering "a bunch of drinks" and appetizers. And when it came time to order their meals, they both opted to go with one of the most pricey options on the menu: Surf and turf. I think we can all see where this is going... Johnny says that when it came time to pay, the waiter asked how they wanted the checks split and the woman immediately chimed in that it would be all on one check. And that's when he decided to make his move:
"I tell her, 'Hey, do me a favor, will you just box up my food real quick and I'm gonna go to the restroom.' She goes, 'Yeah, yeah no problem.' Guess where I went? I didn't go to the restroom. I went in my car and I went home. You think I'm stupid? I'm not. You paid my bill. Thanks." Gotta admit, assuming the story's true and went down like he said it did, I can't say that I blame him. This girl was obviously just looking for a free meal and drinks with her friend, and wasn't expecting somebody to actually make her pay for her own bill. And the comments seem to agree, with everybody saying that Johnny made the right move: "I feel like they have done this before.." "Nothing more disrespectful to me than taking advantage of someone’s kindness. I’d dip out too"
"Bringing a friend with no prior communication abt it is CRAZY. I would’ve prob dipped then" "You dropped your crown king" "Can’t blame you for that at all!" "Good for you! They totally deserve that!" Of course some people questioned whether she was planning on paying the whole bill anyway when she asked for the check to be all together, but...come on, we know that wasn't happening. Johnny also came back to clarify that he went back to the hibachi restaurant the next day and confirmed that the girls did not pay the bill themselves, but had another guy come to pay it for them. And he also says that he doesn't feel bad about leaving them holding the tab.
