Last summer it was Barbenheimer. This summer it’s about to be NCAA Football 25.

For those college football fans who are really bored, desperately need an escape from the horrors of the real world, are fortunate enough to not have to work 25 hour days, or all of the above, this is the perfect outlet.

It really will be a lot of fun.

The EA Sports types are trickling out and teasing this thing, and it’s working. The Top 100 player ratings were the big buzz, but it missed out on a few key guys.

I do know a little bit about what I speak of here - I did the player ratings for three college video games and two basketball games back in the 2000s. There’s a wee bit of a difference between coming up with a top 100 player list and one for a video game based on traits, tools, and other parts.

So no, I’m not dogging the EA Sports types at all for missing on the ten (really 11) guys below who didn’t make the top 100 - there are at least 100 other players who could’ve made it.

Here are ten - again, more like 10.5 - who should’ve made the EA Sports NCAA Football 25 top 100.

    10. Tyler Shough QB Louisville and/or DJ Uiagalelei QB Florida State

One of these two will rise up and be one of the superstars of the college football season.

Uiagalelei hasn’t been nearly consistent enough to earn a 90, and Shough hasn’t been nearly healthy enough to get there. But in terms of tools, these two can match anyone in the game.

    9. Anthony Belton OT NC State

This is a bit of getting into the tech stock early, so it’s not crazy that he’s not a 90, but the 6-6, 336-pound left tackle has the potential to be an elite first round-caliber tackle. A masher, he should be rated as one of the better run blocking tackles in this.

    8. Andrew Mukuba S Texas

Not a big beef here, but he had better be in the high-80s. Mukuba was just very good at Clemson for three years and is still a wee bit more of an overall projection, but he’ll go in the second round of the 2025 NFL Draft after making a whole lot of plays for the Longhorns.

    7. Grayson McCall, QB NC State

The quarterbacks were disrespected across the board, but the three-time Sun Belt Player of the Year with over 10,000 yards and 88 touchdowns with just 14 picks might be pretty good.

I get it. McCall doesn’t have the big arm and was sort of a system guy at Coastal Carolina, but when it comes to putting together these player rankings the basics matter. Accuracy, experience, decision-making, mobility - McCall is a baller.

    6. Jordan Hancock S/CB Ohio State

As is the game has just about every Buckeye in the top 100. Nine Ohio State players made the list, and no, you can’t put EVERYONE in. But the versatile Hancock has top 50 draft pick potential once he comes up with a huge year.

    5. Josh Simmons OT Ohio State

There’s a little bit of a wait-and-see thing here, but the San Diego State transfer is about to be the left tackle for the loaded Buckeye attack. You don’t get that gig unless you have talent - and he’s a future NFL blocker.

    4. Earnest Greene OT Georgia

If he’s not the first offensive tackle off the board in the 2025 NFL Draft, he’ll be in the mix. Like Josh Simmons for Ohio State, Greene is about to be a main man on a national title-level offense. Again, like Simmons, you don’t get that gig unless … yeah, he’s that good.

    3. RJ Oben EDGE Notre Dame

Oben requires a ton of foresight, but in terms of talent and potentially being among the best pass rushers in college football this season. He only played 32 games in five seasons for Duke, but if he stays healthy for the Irish, look out.

    2. Shemar Turner DT Texas A&M

Oh is THIS a whiff by the EA Sports types. The 6-4, 290-pound interior pass rushing nose tackle should blow up very, very large under the new coaching staff - and with edge rushing terror Nic Scourton taking up attention on the outside.

    1. Cam Ward QB Miami

It’s the biggest beef by the early release of the NCAA Football 25 rankings - the quarterbacks aren’t getting enough credit. He should probably be in the NFL already, but the amazing do-it-all passer who rocked at Incarnate Word and was great at Washington State. Now he’s about to become a big national figure at Miami.
