NASH COUNTY, N.C. (WNCN) — According to an announcement from Nash County Public Schools Thursday, schools that are part of the Community Eligibility Provision (CEP) will provide students with breakfast and lunch at no charge in the 2024-2025 school year. Also, students and adults can purchase snacks and à la carte items.

CEP schools are schools that have a high percentage of students who participate in federal assistance programs such as food stamps and federal Medicaid. Schools can be in the CEP program for up to five years.

“We are glad to be able to provide meals at no cost to all our students through the CEP
program,” said Angie Miller, Executive Director of Child Nutrition. “Ensuring that every child has
access to nutritious meals is a fundamental part of our commitment to their overall well-being
    and academic success.”

As NCPS announced their free meals program, Chatham County’s Board of Education unanimously approved providing breakfast and lunch, free of charge, to all students in Chatham County schools within the Community Eligibility Provision.

“In Chatham County Schools, we are entirely focused on ensuring the success of the whole child. This means making sure that every child that walks through our school doors is given the same tools to succeed,” said Superintendent Dr. Anthony Jackson.
