Three years after Mal and Ben’s royal wedding , the Descendants franchise is back with a vengeance in Descendants: The Rise of Red , which introduces fans to a whole new class of singing, dancing VK’s.

But how do Auradon Prep’s newest students really feel about carrying on the series’ legacy? Is it absolutely bonkers to have dolls made of themselves? And which iconic Disney villain could be Red’s mysterious father?

These are just a few of the questions we posed to stars Kylie Cantrall and Malia Baker ahead of their movie’s Disney+ premiere on Friday, July 12. And as you’ll see in our video interview above, they had plenty of thoughts to share.

The fourth feature-length Descendants movie takes us down the rabbit hole to Wonderland, where we make the acquaintance of Red (Cantrall), the rebellious daughter of the deliciously malevolent Queen of Hearts (Rita Ora). Red is thrilled to escape her mother’s tyranny and enroll at Auradon Prep — an institution dedicated to educating the children of fairytale heroes and villains — but when the Queen decides to stage a coup and take over the school, Red reluctantly teams up with Chloe (Baker), the daughter of Cinderella (Brandy) and Prince Charming (Paolo Montalban), to reverse time and prevent her mother from turning evil in the first place.

The girls’ time-bending adventure puts them in the path of many colorful characters, including teenage versions of Cinderella (Morgan Dudley), the Queen of Hearts (Ruby Rose Turner), Charming (Tristan Padil), Hook (Joshua Colley), Maleficent (Mars), Hades (Anthony Pratt) and Morgie (Peder Lindell). They also catch the ire of Uliana (Dara Reneé), the younger sister of iconic sea witch Ursula.

While most of the characters in The Rise of Red are new to fans, two familiar faces from the previous Descendants movies return in supporting roles. China Anne McClain is back as Ursula’s daughter Uma, who is now the principal of Auradon Prep, along with Melanie Paxson as the wand-wielding Fairy Godmother.
