Local pest control companies are getting busy as the heat drives insects into Southern California homes.

Alan Travis with Wise Pest Control told KNX News’ Karen Adams how extreme heat leads to all different types of pests emerging.

“Once the summertime, their internal clocks start ticking and they know that it's time to feed and it's time to breed," he explained.

Travis said bugs and insects will go into homes through any crack or crevice. Sometimes they come up through the foundation, crawlspace, windows, or underneath door frames.

“Always check your weather stripping on your windows, always check your weather stripping underneath doors,” Travis explained. “Make sure those door sweeps are intact. Garage doors as well. Garage is a great place for pests to hang out.”

He also recommends getting rid of any standing water around your home.
