As is tradition, many took to the Lincoln County Courthouse steps Thursday, July 4, to listen to the annual reading of the Declaration of Independence.

Lincoln County PVA Mary Adams welcomed everyone to the event before the Stanford Police Department and Stanford Fire Department raised the American Flag.

The Pledge of Allegiance was led by Judge Janet Booth followed by a prayer given by First Lady of Stanford Treina Miller.

The National Anthem was sung by Andrea Pettus.

Amber Jones read the Declaration of Independence and was followed by Carol Hill who read the Fate of the Founding Fathers.

New to this year’s event was a presentation on the Women in the Revolutionary War by Patrice Demoray.

Irene Jaggers led a reading of the Revolutionary War soldiers.

Pettus led the crowd in a singing of “America the Beautiful” before the event was brought to a close by Lincoln County Clerk Elect Angelia Doolin.

The event ended with the ringing of the Liberty Bell.
