BELMONT COUNTY, OHIO (WTRF) – A major project in one local county has been years in the making, but now there’s finally light at the end of the tunnel for drivers.

Commissioners recently approved a massive paving project in Belmont County, and now it needs final approval from the Ohio Department of Transportation.

It involves the re-surfacing of as many as 7 different roadways covering over 17 miles throughout the county.

Belmont County Engineer, Terry Lively says the project is being funded with a U.S. Department of Transportation Federal Highway Grant he applied for back in 2020.

Prior to that, a separate project was done to replace culverts on those seven roadways.

“That was probably the toughest part of the application process was trying to figure out four years from now which roads are going to need re-surfaced the most at that time. These roads are in poor shape, they have needed resurfaced for quite a while.”

    Terry Lively, Belmont County Engineer

Lively says he expects ODOT to approve the project within the next few weeks. Work would then begin around late August, with completion expected in October.

Here is a complete list of the county roadways to be repaired:

    10 Fairpoint Maynard (9.18 – 13.34), 10 Crescent Barton (16.49-17.85), 24 Boydsville (0.00-0.85), 30 Dixon Hill (0.00-1.89), 56 Maynard (29.92-32.94), 56 Morgan Hill (32.94-35.85), 72 Mt. Hope (9.94-13.03)
