Renée Zellweger has 12 Months to Live in her latest TV role.

The actress will star in and executive-produce an adaptation of James Patterson and Mike Lupica’s book, which is currently in development at Max under the name Jane Smith , our sister site Variety reports.

The series “centers on a brilliant, tough, and darkly funny defense attorney in the Hamptons,” reads the official description. “Up to this point, Jane (Zellwger) has only cared about winning; however, her world is completely turned upside down when, on the eve of the biggest case of her career, she is diagnosed with a terminal brain tumor. While the investigation becomes more dangerous and deeply personal, Jane refuses to let her death sentence stop her from solving this case.” Miki Johnson ( Presumed Innocent, Ozark ) will serve as showrunner.

Zellweger’s previous TV credits include Netflix’s What/If and the NBC miniseries The Thing About Pam .
