By Alex PuckettDavid Nussbaum,
Friday: Another hot day with low humidity as an area of high pressure moves north of Alabama, and we have northerly winds over the area. High temperatures will heat up into the middle 90s, but the heat index stays pretty close to the air temperature.
Weekend Outlook : Another area of high pressure will move over the northern Gulf of Mexico both at the surface and aloft this weekend. These systems will bring us very high temperatures. Saturday and Sunday will be partly cloudy, very hot, and gradually become more humid. There could be a couple of isolated downpours on Sunday, mainly south of I-20. High temperatures will be in the upper 90s to around 100° and the heat index will be around 100-105° each day.
Next Week Outlook : The areas of high pressure will remain over the Southeast U.S. on Monday so we will stay very hot. It will become more humid, and a few pop-up storms are possible. High temperatures will be in the upper 90s, and the heat index will be 105°+. Southeast winds will increase the humidity to very high levels Tuesday through Friday. Each day will be partly cloudy, hot, and humid with hit-or-miss showers and storms. High temperatures will be in the middle to upper 90s, and the heat index will be 105-110°. Heat Advisories will be likely each day.
Tracking the Tropics : A large area of low pressure is a few hundred miles off the SE U.S. Coast. It continues to produce disorganized showers and storms. It has not become better organized, and it won’t organize into anything other than a tropical rain producer for the Carolinas and the Mid Atlantic today and this weekend.
