RICHMOND, Va. (WRIC) — Could Governor Glenn Youngkin’s name once again be on the ballot in Virginia?

Last week, South Carolina Senator Lindsey Graham suggested former President Donald Trump choose Youngkin as his vice presidential running mate.

“I am incredibly humbled anytime my name is included in any of the national discussion,” said Youngkin.

On Wednesday, Youngkin wouldn’t say what he would do if asked by the former president but did say he loves his current job.

“I also firmly believe that my focus on Virginia has resulted in Virginia doing really well and I intend to continue to be focused on Virginia,” Youngkin explained.

Larry Sabato, Director of the University of Virginia’s Center for Politics, says Trump potentially choosing Youngkin comes down to one reason.

“If Trump wins Virginia, the election would be over,” Sabato told 8News. “Biden is skating right at 270 if everything goes right for him. He could ill afford to lose Virginia’s 13 electoral votes. That would be the end of it.”

Sabato says despite the potential, Trump is unlikely to choose Youngkin as his vice president because of their chilly relationship in the past.

“He knows that Youngkin isn’t really a big fan of his even though, when it’s convenient, Youngkin cites Trump,” Sabato said.

There is no timetable as to when Trump might announce his pick, however, the Republican National Convention begins next week.
