RALEIGH, N.C. (WNCN) — Both Republicans and Democrats are fighting hard to get millennials and Gen Z voters to support their party in North Carolina. CBS 17 found that they’re adopting new strategies to engage these voters.

“I’m definitely into the election, but I wish we had better choices,” Katie Okuma said.

“It has been an interesting election cycle, but I will vote,” Raheim Hayes said. “I think voting is important regardless of whether you like the candidates.”

Emily Stack, the chair of the North Carolina Federation of Young Republicans, says they’re getting creative. “We are reaching out to voters through social media and our clubs,” Stack said. “We have clubs and a College Republican group we work with across the state.”

Democrats are also trying new recruiting techniques. “We have to meet them where they are this year outside concert venues, honestly going to bars and venues on Saturday night,” North Carolina Democratic Party Chair Anderson Clayton said.

As we approach the Republican and Democratic conventions, both parties are ramping up their efforts to sway these voters. The anticipation is high, with many like Riley Madden eagerly waiting to see what unfolds in the next couple of weeks.

Others say more social media will help register more young people to vote. “They’re going to have to start coming at them in different ways with social media to get them to vote,” Gabria Savage said.

Both parties are committed to their outreach efforts. They plan to continue their hard work to engage millennials and Gen Zers. Additionally, they are expanding their teams to include more young people, ensuring a sustained effort to engage these groups until November.
