That's a...bold move. Alec Baldwin is on trial in New Mexico for the deadly shooting on the set of Rust back in 2021. The actor has been charged with involuntary manslaughter after the shooting that took the life of cinematographer Halyna Hutchens and wounded director Joel Souza. The tragic accident occurred during preparation for a scene in which Baldwin was supposed to draw his gun in a church, but not actually fire it. Unfortunately, the gun had somehow been loaded with a live round, as opposed to the dummy round that was supposed to be in it, and wasn’t properly checked before being brought to set. Baldwin claims that he never pulled the trigger – though
prosecutors say that’s not possible . I've watched bits and pieces of the trial so far, and Baldwin has looked none too pleased to be there. (Although who would be?) But regardless, he's on trial for a serious crime and facing prison time, so you'd think he would be on his best behavior. But apparently he doesn't understand the rules in a courtroom aren't the same as on a movie set? During a moment of the trial when the two sides were arguing over whether prosecutors would be allowed to introduce Baldwin's private phone calls to his wife in the hours directly after the shooting, with the jury out of the courtroom, Baldwin could be seen listening to the prosecutor's arguments and appearing to angrily rock back and forth. He then stands up and walks out as the prosecutor is speaking, and while his attorney is busy looking at his own notes. Once Baldwin's attorney realizes what's happening, it appears that he tries to ask the actor where he's going, but by then it's too late. His client's gone. The attorney, Alex Spiro, looks around confused before asking the judge to approach the bench. It's not clear what was said, but after the attorneys return back to their spots, the judge immediately rules on the motion and gets back to business. Moments later, Baldwin reappears back in the courtroom - carrying a cup of coffee? Of course it's possible that he had some sort of bathroom emergency or was feeling sick, but coming back with coffee after rushing out of the courtroom unannounced when you're on trial for manslaughter...not a great look. https://twitter.com/LawCrimeNetwork/status/1811505750016983155
