MINOT, N.D. ( KXNET ) — Sprouting up from the soil, garlic scapes season is upon us. And, be careful not to scape (scrape) yourself when preparing them.

Tasting exactly like garlic, their flavor is a little milder than normal garlic cloves.

The scape season is really short, and it freezes well, said farmers at the Minot Farmer’s Market. You can either pickle them or stir fry them and use them to make Pestos and garlic butter.

“I think that the garlic scape thing is something new in the kitchens I guess of those that have the abilities to do the good cooking,” said David from Kopp’s Gardens.

Farmers Market leaders said that they are growing, by adding different local vendors.

National Farmers Market week is coming up next month and you can head to Oak Park to support the local farmers.
