ALABAMA (WDHN)—A new study found that Alabama has the highest-quality roads in America, followed closely by Indiana and Wyoming.

According to a study that analyzed data from the U.S. Department of Transportation and published by the personal injury firm Suzuki Law, 98.25% of Alabama’s roads were considered acceptable for drivers.

The study used each road’s “International Roughness Index,” or IRI, with data reported as inches per mile. A lower IRI represents smoother riding roadways.

Alabama has 11,308.93 miles of road, where 11,111.09 miles were considered acceptable to drive on.

Richard Suzuki of the law office that published the study said, “Around a third of all US states have over 90% of their roads considered to be of acceptable quality or above, which is beneficial for both tourists and locals as this helps to minimize the likelihood of accidents caused by uneven road surfaces.”

Hawaii came last in the study, with only 61.32% of its roads considered acceptable for drivers.
