Pinpoint Weather: Cooler Friday with showers and storms

ROANOKE, Va. ( WFXR ) — An area of low pressure over the Carolinas will track northward along a nearby front, causing increasing rain chances in Southwest and Central Virginia on Friday.

Overall, there is a greater chance for scattered showers and storms east of the Blue Ridge, but some rain will travel further west. Due to the moist air in place, downpours may occur. While the rain is much needed, localized flooding could become an issue.

The additional cloud cover and rain will result in “cooler” conditions on Friday. Morning temperatuers will start in the 60s and 70s before rising into the upper 70s and lower 80s by the afternoon.

Isolated showers and storms cannot be ruled out for Saturday. Otherwise, heat and humidity will be the main topics for several days. Expect a mix of sun and clouds on Saturday with highs in the 90s. Sunday will be mostly dry and even hotter with afternoon temperatures in the middle and upper 90s. Heat index values above 100 are possible.

The hot and humid weather will persist into the upcoming week. Low rain chances are slated for Monday and Tuesday with partly to mostly sunny skies overhead. Morning temperatures will start near 70 before warming into the 90s during the afternoon. The humid air will make it feel hotter.

A cold front will approach the region during the middle of the week. Increasing rain chances are anticipated in Southwest and Central Virginia on Wednesday and Thursday.
