The use of coal for fuel is increasing in India. The primary reason is that the drought has lowered the water available to power dams, which has decreased hydropower capacity. According to Nikkei Asia, “Climate change has driven the annual monsoon in much of Asia, including India and China, to become more erratic. In turn, the generation of hydroelectricity — India’s biggest source of non-fossil fuel-based power — has started plunging.” Climatecrisis247 believes this is one more example of how climate change alters some energy availability. Recently, there was great anxiety about this happening in the American West as the water behind the Hoover Dam dropped to historically low levels, undermining its ability to produce electricity.

AI continues to increase the electricity needs of America’s big tech companies. NPR says, “And as AI gets more sophisticated, it needs more energy. In the U.S., a majority of that energy comes from burning fossil fuels like coal and gas, which are primary drivers of climate change.” Climatecrisis247 believes companies recently criticized for this trend are Microsoft and Google. Each is unlikely to reach its ambitious green energy targets, which usually involve zero emissions. AI will be a primary driver of the sharply rising use of electricity.

    Food Price Inflation

Climate change worldwide is inflating global food prices. Al Jazeera reports that this is happening in both poor and rich nations. The news organization says, “Crops, fruit, livestock and transport are all affected. It could lead to higher inflation, as well as food security threats.” Climatecrisis24 believes there is no better recent example of this than the sharp rise in cocoa prices. The Ivory Coast and Ghana, which produce more than 70% of the world’s cocoa, have been hit hard by drought, which has sharply reduced supply. In turn, chocolate prices have surged.

    Climate Migration

The UN reports that climate change will drive global migration. Vox said, “The United Nations Population Fund said climate change is expected to exacerbate global inequalities and trigger national and international migration.” Among the primary examples was drought in parts of Africa. Climatecrisis247 believes that as this problem worsens, so will the challenges of moving tens of millions of people less affected by changes in the climate. At some point, the need for re-operation will become so great that it will be impossible. This will trigger a large number of deaths, civil unrest, and the use of military force to protect nations that cannot accept refugees .
