German Chancellor Scholz to attend Euro 2024 final in Berlin

German Chancellor Olaf Scholz will attend the Euro 2024 final between Spain and England on Sunday at Berlin's Olympic stadium, deputy government spokesman Wolfgang Büchner said.

Scholz had already attended Germany's matches against Denmark in the group stage and Spain in the quarter-finals, in which the hosts were eliminated after a late defeat in extra time.

The chancellor has drawn a positive conclusion from the tournament so far.

"The Euros has shown that sport can bring people together. We're grateful to the fans from all over Europe for celebrating on our streets, singing, dancing to the sound of saxophones or jumping left and right," Büchner said.
