CHICOPEE, Mass. (WWLP) – The 22News Storm Team issued a Weather Alert for potential street and stream flooding.

A Flood Watch is in effect for Hampden, Hampshire, and Franklin Counties until Saturday evening.

Saturday’s 7 am temperatures will be in the 70s. It will be a mix of sun & clouds on Saturday, with some scattered showers. Some of the showers may be heavy enough to cause some minor flooding. The showers will be widely scattered. High temperatures will be in the mid to upper 80s.

Our chances for scattered showers will continue Saturday evening. Temperatures will be in the upper 70s.

More rain ahead for summer after last year’s floods

    Live Radar

Sunday will be bright & hot, with highs in the low 90s. Monday could see a heat index in the mid to high 90s and a chance for showers later in the day.

On Wednesday, Vermont and New Hampshire saw lots of heavy rain which created major flooding. As the flood waters recede into the rivers and streams, all that water has to come downriver, and with that, the Connecticut, Mill, Westfield, and Deerfield rivers could see water levels rise.

Areas that are prone to flooding are valley locations and low-lying areas. If you live near a river, creek, or stream just keep an eye out for high-running water, and if you see any water covering a road, turn around and don’t drown.

There have been some showers and storms around this month but not everybody has seen them and the hot weather we’ve been getting can make it pretty dry fairly quickly. On average for July we usually pick up around 4 inches of rain.

“Last July we had almost record rainfall in some spots of western Massachusetts. So really at any given time, you can go from dry weather to a pattern you get stuck in of just consistent rain and thunderstorms,” said 22News Storm Team Meteorologist Chris Bouzakis.

The latest U.S. Drought monitor that just came out, shows most of Berkshire County, Western Franklin and Hampshire Counties, and far northwestern Hampden County in the abnormally dry category.

    7 Day Forecast

We had our first heat wave in June with temperatures in the 90s for three days in a row. This week we had our second heat wave of the summer with temperatures up into the 90s for five days in a row and it’s looking like we could see that again next week.
