On June 24, an Indiana dog owner believes her rescue pup saved her life by alerting her in time about a carbon monoxide leak. Fortunately, the canine and her human are safe and sound, all thanks to the Siberian Husky realizing something was wrong and asking her owner for a walk. Authorities noted it was a significant leak, and the resident was fortunate to have survived the ordeal.

Samantha Griffin and her niece moved into a new apartment earlier this year. However, their new home’s smoke and carbon monoxide detector occasionally went off. The 38-year-old resident put it off as a battery or power issue. It wasn’t until late June that she realized there was a major carbon monoxide leak in her Marion, Indiana, house, all thanks to her rescue dog, who alerted her owner.

On the day of the incident, she was home alone with her pup, Luna. She started having a bad headache but passed it off as a migraine, as she had suffered from migraines before. However, Luna didn’t let her sleep and constantly asked to be let out. This wasn’t usual behavior for the Siberian Husky, per ABC News . Soon after, her alarm went off, and she called the building maintenance, who then contacted the fire department.

First responders later revealed that there was a carbon monoxide leak in her new home. Moreover, the gas company staff was shocked Griffin made it out alive. He told the dog owner that the credit lies with her rescue, who saved her from carbon monoxide poisoning in time. A bird’s nest in the structure’s gas water heater flue was the cause of the leak.

Luna is a two-year-old Siberian Husky rescued by Griffin from Speedway Animal Rescue. The Marion resident welcomed home the pup last September. Although the canine had stopped eating for a short period, she is back to her happy and playful self now.
