Horry County veterinarian sentenced to treatment court for violating drug-distribution laws, solicitor’s office says

HORRY COUNTY, S.C. (WBTW) — An Horry County veterinarian has been sentenced to treatment court for violating South Carolina drug distribution laws, according to the 15th Circuit Solicitor’s Office.

Kelsey Strickland, the owner of Blue Ribbon Equine Services in Green Sea, was arrested in November after state authorities said she obtained “quantities” of the drug Butorphanol and falsely documented or failed to maintain documents relating to the administration of the drug for multiple horses owned by two different people between June 14, 2021, and Sept. 14, 2023.

“While in Treatment Court, she will be required to attend a minimum of two therapy sessions each week, abide by a curfew, maintain full-time employment, and will be tested for alcohol and drugs two-three times each week,” a solicitor’s office spokesperson said. “She will remain in Treatment Court for a minimum of nine to 12 months. If she successfully completes, the sentence will be considered satisfied. If she does not complete the program, her original sentence will become active.”

Her original sentence was three years in prison, according to online public records in Horry County.
