Foul play involved in death of 9-month-old, investigators say

Investigators suspect foul play was involved in the death of a 9-month-old baby girl in Catawba County.

Authorities were called around 5 a.m. Friday to a home along Tanglewood Drive north of Conover for the investigation. Inside, they found the baby girl’s body and are calling the death suspicious.

The initial call for deputies came in as a suspicious person on Section House Road, which is near the home. There, they found a woman who seemed disoriented. They followed her to the home on Tanglewood Drive where they found the baby, who they learned was her daughter.

Deputies said the woman has been taken to the hospital for a mental health evaluation.

Investigators are waiting for autopsy results and are consulting with the district attorney.
