This weekend will have a stormy start and a sunny ending.

The mid-Hudson region will see thunderstorms on Saturday, with a chance of flooding in some spots, but that will be followed by a hot and sunny day on Sunday.

The National Weather Service has issued a flood watch that will be in effect from noon Friday to Saturday afternoon in Orange County, and from Friday evening to Saturday afternoon in Dutchess and Ulster counties.

No flood watch has been issued yet for Sullivan County, but it is still expected to see its share of thunderstorms through Saturday afternoon.

The National Weather Service said the thunderstorms will bring rain that could be heavy at times, producing as much as one half to three-quarters of an inch of rain Friday night and another one-quarter to half an inch of rain on Saturday in Orange County; one-quarter to half an inch of rain Friday night and the same amount on Saturday in Dutchess and Sullivan counties; and one-tenth to one quarter of an inch of rain both Friday night and Saturday in Ulster County.

Temperatures that soared into the 90s during this past week's heat wave will drop briefly on Saturday before returning to the 90s on Sunday, the National Weather Service said.

On Saturday, there will be a high of 87 degrees in Orange County, 88 degrees in Dutchess and Ulster counties and 83 degrees in Sullivan County, with skies turning partly sunny after the rain stops later in the day.

On Sunday, skies will be sunny across the region, with highs of 91 degrees in Orange County, 92 degrees in Dutchess and Ulster counties, and 86 degrees in Sullivan County.

Beyond the weekend, temperatures are expected to remain in the 90s, or at least approach that level, for several days afterward across the region.
