Former Bayern Munich CEO Oliver Kahn doesn't consider the dismissal of now Germany coach Julian Nagelsmann from the German record champions in 2023 a mistake.

"I've said often that we had our reasons at the time," he told the Bild newspaper in an interview. He added that he finds it difficult to evaluate such decisions in retrospect.

Bayern honorary president Uli Hoeness recently said that Nagelsmann's dismissal came too soon. Back then, in March 2023, the club were still in contention for the Bundesliga, the Champions League and the German Cup.

Nagelsmann was sacked and replaced by Thomas Tuchel, who only managed to secure the Bundesliga title in the final matchday of the season.

Kahn refused to accept accusations that he sacked a promising coach and added: "You could just as well say: Was it sensible for Uli Hoeness and Karl-Heinz Rummenigge to sack Carlo Ancelotti, who went on to win I don't know how many titles with Real Madrid?"

Ancelotti was dismissed by Bayern in autumn 2017 after just over a year in Munich. Since then, he has won two La Liga and two Champions League titles with Madrid.
