Nelly Furtado has officially announced her seventh album, and her first album in seven years, fittingly titled 7 . It’s set to arrive Sept. 20, and the announcement comes with a new single, “Corazón,” featuring the Colombian band Bomba Estéro.

Furtado celebrated the song and its arrival on Instagram , revelaing that it “took two years to make, in three different cities, with an army of people.” She continued: “This is going to sound strange and stupid but this isn’t a job for me. It’s super personal. Music is my whole language and life and love and blessing, so sometimes it’s hard for me to wrap that up in a bow.”

“Corazón” was one of the first songs Furtado wrote for 7 . The track came about after a friend introduced Furtado to Bomba Estéro’s Liliana Saumet, which prompted Furtado to fly to Santa Marta, Colombia and start creating music with Saumet and others.

Furtado has been steadily releasing music over the past couple years, officially returning with her first new music since 2017 last year. Her tracks have included “Keep Going Up” with Timbaland and Justin Timberlake , and “Gala y Dalí” with Juanes . She released the first 7 single, “Love Bites,” with Tove Lo and SG Lewis, back in May.

7 follows Furtado’s 2017 album The Ride . After spending several years focusing on being a mother, she was inspired to get back to songwriting and recording after continually hearing her old music all over the place. “I kept hearing my music being played and remixed by DJs, and at the same time, my eldest daughter was showing me how the online community — including a whole new audience of Gen Z fans — were discovering and embracing my music, 20 years later,” Furtado said in a statement. “I heard the calling!”

Furtado spent four years working on 7 , during which she apparently wrote 400 songs and collaborated with an array of artists, songwriters, musicians, and producers from around the world.

“I found my voice again,” she said. “I came to the studio lost and searching for my artistic identity. I had done a lot of reflection and self-work during my seven years outside of music so I was bringing that growth into the studio with me… This collection of songs is so personal. It reflects my journey through heartbreak and finding my confidence as an artist again, into the pure joy and celebration you feel when you’re nurturing your passion and are part of a community.”
