    Fort New Salem night tours starting back this weekend

    SALEM, W.Va. (WBOY) — The first of two lamplight “Myths of the Mountains” tours at Fort New Salem in Harrison County is being offered on Saturday.

    The tours offer a chance to see the fort in the dark with planned stops to hear folklore tails told by costumed storytellers. Visitors will be able to see several of the cabins at the fort, which has been offering the tours for 50 years.

    Tours are offered every 10 minutes starting at 8 p.m. with the last one of the night starting at 9:30 p.m. Tickets cost $7 and include access to the hour-long tour plus a complimentary cup of cider. Children 10 and under are free with a paying adult.

    According to Fort New Salem’s website , Myths of the Mountains is its most unique offering of the year and is only being offered twice on July 13 and July 27. Tickets are purchased on-site and are not available online.
