When we have to leave, our pets miss us. More than that, they may even worry about us; they most likely suspect that we will come back, but they have no idea how long that will be. It's heartbreaking!

On Thursday, July 11th, one Newfoundland went up to find his sister/bestie, only to discover that she's gone off to sleep-away camp. Obviously, this poor boy had to spend some time moping about it, and it's just about the cutest thing:

Chewy the Newfie is the best brother ever. I'm sure his sister is missing him, too!

Chewy is possibly the most famous Newfoundland on TikTok, and for good reason. They're all adorable and sassy, but Chewy just has a certain "star power" that no one else has. He feels everything in the most extravagant way possible, especially the temporary loss of his human sister.

According to his mom, Chewy has been spending most of his free time on her bed or in her room, upset and waiting for her to come home. It's started to affect his dog sister, who sleeps in the dog bed next to his at night. So, really, Chewy went to sleep-away camp in his own right!

How to Tell if Your Dog is Depressed

Chewy, according to his mom, is sitting on his sister's bed and waiting for her to come home in his free time. He really misses her, but there definitely comes a point when their sadness goes from cute and sweet to concerning.

If your dog's sadness over someone being gone has crossed over into depressive territory, you might notice that they:

    1. Spend most of their time sleeping.
    2. Refuse to eat/eat less than normal.
    3. Don't respond to attempts to play.
    4. Snap, growl, or snarl if you try to remove them.

Of course, there are some circumstances that make it impossible for whoever they're missing to come home right away, and it just wouldn't be fair. His sister loves him very much, but she also deserves to have a fun time at sleep-away camp!

Luckily, there are things you can do to distract them, like offering them extra treats or taking them on walks. Stimulating activities like car rides or walks/hikes somewhere they're not familiar with can also help them take their mind off of their emotions.

If their depression is extreme, going to the vet is the best idea. They'll be able to help figure out exactly what's causing it and the best treatment plan, which could range from routine adjustments to prescription anti-depressants. Hopefully Chewy's sister will come home soon!
