The funds raised from the book, according to a press release sent to POWDER, are to be distributed across non-profits and to individuals with ties to non-profits that make changes in line with what Hilaree Nelson stood for during her lifetime, including empowering women in the outdoor space and defending against climate change.

Hilaree Nelson was a top ski mountaineer who tragically died in an avalanche while skiing from the Himalayan summit of Manaslu, the world's eighth highest mountain.

Nelson was the first female captain of the North Face athlete team , was named a National Geographic “adventurer of the year” in 2018, and named “the most accomplished female ski pioneer of her generation" by Outside Magazine just one year later.

Blizzard’s W2W Project Lead, Leslie Baker-Brown noted that “Hilaree was such an important person in the outdoor space, not just for women but for all.”

Nelson "showed us what women could do and led us encouragingly and humbly. It was important for us to not let her legacy fade away, but to carry on and support the things that were important to her.”

This funding helps other women in similiar pursuits in their own lifetimes, enabling them to carry on Hilaree's impactful legacy.

Right now, Blizzard is calling for applications using this page on their website.

The application window closes August 1st, and requires the applicant to fill out information such as which non-profit they are tied to, how the money will be used, and anything else the readers should know about their application.
