Meet the Camouflage Cowboy. Even if you don't know the name Drew Parker yet, you definitely know his work. The Grammy-nominated songwriter has penned songs like "Doin' This," "1,2 Many" and "Forever After All" for Luke Combs, and "Homemade" by Jake Owen. But after having so many hits for others, Drew is ready to make a statement with his debut album
Camouflage Cowboy - and from the first listen, it's clear that he deserves to be on the stage just as much as those who have had hits with his songs. The album feels personal yet relatable, which can often be a fine line for a songwriter but one that Drew seems to be able to navigate with ease. From heartbreakers like "Whiskey Proof" to the steamy "Love The Leavin'," it's his ability to put a new spin on familiar themes that immediately stands out and sets this album apart from many debuts we see these days. When I opened the album for the first time and saw the first song was called "The Truck," I just assumed it was going to be a song about a guy and his truck - right? Heard a million truck songs, but we'll see what this one's about. But I listened to it and realized it wasn't a "truck song" at all. Drew managed to find a unique angle to what seems like an otherwise-common country song title, and that's the kind of compelling songwriting that hooks me as a listener. And he does it over and over with his incredible storytelling. It's that depth that makes the album all the more compelling from top to bottom, especially on standout songs like "Luck Don't Live Around Here" and Drew's current radio single, "Love The Leavin'." The entire album not only features songwriting that would be right at home with some of the biggest hits of the '90s, but also makes it clear that Drew was influenced by the neo-traditional sound of guys like Brooks & Dunn, Travis Tritt and Alan Jackson. Like George Strait if he were in a duck blind instead of a rodeo. Speaking about the album, Drew says that he wanted to introduce himself to listeners while staying true to himself:
"I hope it gives you a deeper sense of who I am as a man and what matters most to me. 'Camouflage Cowboy' isn't just about wearing a shirt or a hat. It's about wearing my heart on my sleeve and being true to myself. It's about being open and letting people see the real me." His debut album also comes on the same week that Drew welcomed his second child, a baby girl, making this release all the more special. The album has a little bit of everything, from the rockin' country lifestyle anthem "Hillbilly Billionaires" to the title track that serves as a deeper look into who Drew Parker is as a man, and the final song which is a version of the gospel classic "What A Day That Will Be" with bluegrass gospel group The Isaacs, the entire album is an introduction to Parker as an artist that will hook any fan of stone-cold country music.
