The Smile have canceled their upcoming tour dates in August as guitarist Jonny Greenwood recovers from a serious infection that landed him in intensive care.

“A few days ago, Jonny became seriously ill from an infection that needed emergency hospital treatment, some of it in intensive care. Mercifully, he is now out of danger and will soon return home,” according to a statement released by the band on Friday (July 12th).

However, “we have been instructed by the medical team in charge of Jonny’s care to cancel all engagements until he has had time to make a full recovery. To that end, The Smile tour of Europe in August is cancelled.”

The Smile recently completed a run of European shows that took place in June. The tour dates came in support of the band’s sophomore album, Wall of Eyes , which was released in January 2024.
