Please join us in sending healing thoughts in the direction of The Bold & The Beautiful star Sean Kanan (Deacon), who had rotator cuff surgery on July 11. The actor shared the news with fans in a video he shot in his home office to share on social media.

“Well, I came out of surgery and the surgeon told me that it went really well,” Kanan reported. “We gotta wait and see. But I just want to thank all of you for your messages and your support. It means the world to me.”

Kanan is also clearly keeping his sense of humor as he recovers from the surgery. “It seems like my biggest issue right now is fighting with my wife about not jumping back into work right now and getting things done. They gave me a nerve blocker, so we’ll see what a tough guy I am once that wears off. But honestly, right now I feel really good. Eager to start my physical therapy and get on the road to healing.”

The rotator cuff is a set of four muscles in the shoulder that are used to rotate the upper arm. A rotator cuff tear is when the tendon of the muscle tears away from the bone, which can be caused by a fall, overexertion, or just repetitive wear and tear. Surgery is usually very quick and done with regional anesthesia which allows the patient to go home just hours after the procedure.

After surgery, recovery time will vary depending on the severity of the tear. The tendon will heal in six to eight weeks, but the patient will need to do three to four months of physical therapy. A sling will be worn for the first two or three weeks, and the patient can usually return to most normal activities after a few months.

The comments on Kanan’s Instagram post have filled up with get well wishes from fans and friends, including a post from an Australian B&B account. “Get well soon, Sean,” they wrote. “Sheila better do the heavy lifting at Il Giardino until further notice!”
