Getting your dog a puppy is one of life's greatest pleasures. If you have a dog, you've probably at least considered getting a second one. That first dog is always so sweet, but being an only dog can sometimes be a little bit lonely.

On Friday, July 12th, one English Mastiff mom shared what it's been like living with two of these gentle giants. When they're with mom, they're definitely more gentle. When they're with each other, though, all bets are off:

Bowser the Mastiff is definitely happy to have Benny around, but it's probably pretty tiresome, too. Puppies are exhausting (and a little annoying).

Bowser is a 4 year old, 175-pound English Mastiff with a million followers on TikTok. Most of us know we could never handle even one of these dogs, let alone two , so everyone is always intrigued by him! Before Benny came along, he got most of his viral hits by being the textbook definition of a big baby: he needs all the attention at all times.

Benny came home on June 23rd of this year, and since then, things have been kind of crazy. Not only is he adjusting to life in his new home, but mom has at least one cat, Bowser, and every day human responsibilities. Lucky us, though, she's kept us up to date on everything, including the not-so-good parts, like Bowser accidentally scaring him.

Are Mastiffs Good With Other Dogs?

Bowser and Benny may fight, because all siblings fight, but at the same time, they love each other. They're brothers!

Whether a Mastiff is going to be good with other dogs often depends on their gender, whether they're spayed/neutered, and their exposure to other dogs from birth. Non-neutered, poorly socialized Mastiffs are very territorial and may have a harder time acclimating to life with other dogs.

If you think you may want to get a second dog in the future, socialization is key. Taking them for walks, to the dog bark, or even dropping them off at doggy daycare for a few days a week can help them get familiar with other dogs. Most of the time, dogs are wary of new additions regardless of whether they've been socialized properly, so you'll need to let them have a few days to adjust.

In that time, you should limit exposure regardless of breed, but supervision is extra important when you're working with a giant breed. Bowser is 175 pounds, and even if he doesn't mean to, he could do some serious damage to his baby brother. Luckily, mom is doing a great job here!
