Here’s What Bethenny Frankel Said About The Hamptons’ Demographic

Earlier this week, Frankel took to TikTok to share a video titled, ‘THE DOUCHY HAMPTONS.’ In the clip, Frankel explained that the area is “an amazing place because it’s farm meets beach meets woods…”

Additionally, Frankel explained that “there are all kinds of people here… it’s not only rich people — there’s all kinds of people.”

“There’s a big Latin community here… there is, um, [an] African American community here — on the beach, beautiful houses,” she explained.

Ultimately, Frankel explained that the allure of the Hamptons is likened to the appeal of Coachella. However, it’s still a “family place,” and those who are really in tune with the area visit “year-round.”

    Watch her full statements below.

    Social Media Shares Mixed Reactions

Social media users reacted to Frankel’s comment about the Hamptons’ demographic in The Shade Room’s comment section . Many appeared to believe that Frankel slighted the African American and Latin community by saying the Hamptons are “not only rich people.”

    Instagram user @maddyfamilia wrote,
So Black & Latin folk can’t be rich? Girl…BYE….” While Instagram user @willyssworld added, So the Latin community and black people there aren’t rich people. Got it.” Instagram user @iamboyjames wrote, Oh wow, so ‘Rich’ is white only? Gotcha.” While Instagram user @shortymackatl added, Did she say, ‘it’s not just rich people, there are Latin and black people too? I’m sorry, who are the rich people? I’m pretty sure everyone up there is rich. Is she implying only white people are rich in the Hamptons? ”
Instagram user @notesfromnessie wrote, It’s giving ‘black jobs’ …”

Others, however, appeared to believe that Frankel’s words were misconstrued.

Instagram user @urbansoulsuite wrote, people are taking this out of context …. she literally was just saying ‘it’s not only rich white people’ she didn’t say black people and latin people aren’t rich, yall know what she meant but want to make it something else, and i don’t care in the slightest for Bethenny but i knew what she meant as i watched….” While Instagram user @_chukwuemeka44_ added,
The lady said the African American community have huge houses on the beach, is everyone slow? Is everyone supposed to be this easily triggered? Let me in on the joke pleeease because yall are exhausting asf” Instagram user @blkbarbs wrote, I’m not a Bethany fan whatsoever, but I feel like she was just explaining that the Hamptons are not just rich white people. It’s a diverse place of other ethnicities. but correct me if I’m wrong ”

Another Entrepreneur Sparked Backlash For Seemingly Ignoring A Demographic

Frankel isn’t the only one to spark backlash with her words. As The Shade Room previously reported, in June, a Missouri restauranteur named Marvin Pate went viral after he and his wife opened a business that only welcomes women diners who are 30 and older and men who are 35 and older.

At the time, Pate explained that he wanted to create a space for “older people,” free of “some of the young folks who bring drama.” Although the restauranteur may have had good intentions, some social media users believe the entrepreneur was perpetuating discrimination.

Instagram user @prince_davis10 stepped into The Shade Room’s comment section , with, “ If you understand discrimination, this is what it is. You cannot age discriminate…” In response to the backlash, Pate doubled down. The entrepreneur that he and his team were “okay” with similar critiques and planned to “[stick] to their code.”
