Sabrina Carpenter explained the importance of having a good "punchline" and catchy lyrics in her songs.

The Short n' Sweet singer detailed her reasoning in an appearance on Thursday's (July 11) episode of Hot Ones , using her hit song "Espresso" as an example of how lyrics that may seem obvious to use don't match the vibe of the song or don't fully capture what she is trying to say, per People .

"I do like to pay attention to... if people can understand lyrics," she said, adding. "So much of what I like is the punchline. If people don't know the punchline, it's like, waste. That's how I feel about 'me espresso.' I've heard a lot of people that were like, 'She should've said, "That's that blonde espresso, duh."'"

While she understands where those comments come from, the "Please Please Please" singer doesn't agree that it fit with the rest of the track.

"And I'm like, 'Well, yes. That is another song as well that deserves its spot in the world,' but this one for me ... 'me espresso' just felt like the right thing to say, and it rhymes with the line before it," she said.

The Disney Channel alum is gearing up to hit the road this fall for her sold-out Short n' Sweet Tour , which will follow the release of her upcoming album of the same name. Earlier this week, she shared the tracklist for the highly-anticipated project , including tracks like "Sharpest Tool, "Lie To Girls," "Don't Smile" and more.
