Interior Designer Shares Big Decor Mistake She Wishes Clients Would Stop Making

We've all been guilty of this mistake. But we had no idea it was such a big deal!
There are a lot of interior design "rules" that regular people, like ourselves, simply aren't aware of. There truly is an art to decorating a space but unless you've been academically or professionally educated, or you're just a doom scroller on TikTok, it's hard to know what's in and what's not!
This interior designer is here to give us her best piece of advice when it comes to arranging living room furniture . This will make your space look as big as possible! Check her tip out below.
If you feel like you don't know a thing about the rules of interior design and you're just winging it, you're not alone. We're right there with you. As long as everything kinda sorta matches and we don't spend hundreds of dollars, we consider that a win!
But if you're looking for that boujee classy aesthetic and you want to know where to start, then this interior designer's page will be the perfect inspiration for you.
TikTok user and interior designer Ana Egger, also known as @staged.by.ana , is always our go-to creator when it comes to home interior do's and don'ts. She's well known for her "look for and avoid" series where she shops at all of our favorite brands (IKEA, HomeGoods, Target, Wayfair etc.) and lets us know what's in and what's out.
In this video, she focuses on living room design and even more specifically living room rugs. Did you know there were "rules" to rugs in the living room? I had no idea!
The Number One Rule to Rug Placement in the Living Room
The placement of your rug can make or break the look of your space. A too-small rug can make the room look awkward, clunky, and tight! In order to maximize the area and create the illusion of space, Anna recommends living by her number one rug rule called the "Front Leg Rule."
No matter what size your couch or accent chairs, you want your rug to be underneath every front leg of the furniture. This is still true even if you have an L-shaped couch. You don't want the rug simply at the couch or right in front of it; you want the rug underneath the legs.
Another tip is to make sure that your rug goes past the ends of your furniture. This will also help make your space appear so much larger!
Follow this rules, and your living room will be interior designer- approved.
