Major Democratic donors have reportedly told the largest pro-Biden super PAC that approximately $90 million in pledged donations are now on hold until President Joe Biden steps down from the ticket.

According to two sources with The New York Times , multiple eight-figure donor commitments have been frozen following the president’s poor performance at the CNN debate against Donald Trump last month.

The Times cited two sources who spoke under the condition of anonymity. The super PAC Future Forward refused to speak about the situation when asked by the Times , but one adviser with the group told the outlet that they expect paused donations to return once the uncertainty regarding Biden’s political future is resolved.

One donor told the Times that despite being approached multiple times by the super Pac for monetary contributions since the debate, he and his friends have decided to hold off.

    Per the Times :

The two people briefed on the frozen pledges declined to say which individual donors were pulling back promised checks, which were estimated to total around or above $90 million. It was not clear how much of the pledged money was earmarked for Future Forward’s super PAC versus its nonprofit arm, which has also been running advertising in key battleground states. The super PAC has been shying away from making major strategic decisions until it gets clarity on who will be atop the ticket, according to a separate person close to the group.

The cash freeze comes as some advisers around Mr. Biden are discussing how to persuade the president to exit the race, and as his campaign has begun to test Vice President Kamala Harris in head-to-head surveys of voters against former President Donald J. Trump. The number of congressional Democrats calling for Mr. Biden to step aside is growing by the day.

During the debate, Biden struggled to answer questions coherently and had a raspy voice. Democratic pundits, strategists, and a growing number of lawmakers have called on the president to step aside before the convention and allow a different candidate to face Trump in November.

Biden reaffirmed his commitment to staying in the race during a Thursday press conference where he said, “I believe I’m the best qualified to govern…and I think I’m the best qualified to win.”
