It's on. While Election Day isn't until Aug. 20, the Florida primary has gone live, as elections supervisors across the state began mailing ballots to voters who requested them.

While the names Biden and Trump don't appear on primary ballots, voters have a say in who will represent them in Congress, the Florida Legislature, and county and city offices. These officeholders are arguably more impactful on local residents, as they make decisions on laws, ordinances and taxation.

Kendrick Thomas, operations manager with the Volusia County Supervisor of Elections, said as of Friday morning, 69,339 ballots had been mailed.

There was a nearly even split between Republicans and Democrats, with 27,306 going to Republicans and 27,264 going to Democrats. The rest are going to nonpartisan voters or those from other parties, Thomas said.

In Flagler County, Supervisor of Elections Kaiti Lenhart said her staff mailed more than 15,000 ballots on Thursday.

The breakdown in Flagler County: Republicans, 6,594 (43.1%); Democrats, 5,905 (38.5%); No Party Affiliation, Others, 2,815 (18.4%).
